Karen has been an amazing inspiration to those around her.

At the beginning of 2014 internal realisations inspired a whole life change and since then she has not looked back. On the last official update I recieved from Karen on the 31st May she had lost 30 kgs / 66 lbs in just 5 months.

She didn’t want to share her full story or photos and that’s perfecly okay but she did agree to share some of her amazing words of success with us in our Tuesday Transformation Series.

Tip #1: Mindset Is The Key To Success

Karen says:

Mindset is the main reason for my success to date. The focus has to be there so excuses don’t become easy to succumb to.

Tip #2: Set Mini Challenges For Yourself

What helped me were mini, medium and long term goals. 5kg chunks, a target by my son’s 21st, met with a further kilo down, and the end game, 66kgs. I need another medium term goal now. Like having size 14 tops and bottoms for spring.

I bought my first size 16 top today, so now I’m in size 16 tops and bottoms!

Tip #3: Use Visualisation

Visualising the goodness of natural foods inside me also helps, so sugar is actually unappealing – especially walking into service stations now the chips, chocs and lollies seem so empty. I’m not going to waste any precious calories on having them, nothing good in there.

Tip #4: Focus On Getting Good Quality Sleep

Over the past month, having at least 8 hrs sleep has made a big difference to my moods and mental abilities. I’m sure my hormones are happier for it. I’m in bed by 9.30 most nights. Funny going to bed before the kids.

Tip #5: Get The Family Involved In Your Goals

Even though it’s better to have the family on board, it’s only my eldest and I eating the same food most of the time. It was easier to make allowances so I was on track, rather than be beaten by the crowd. Just one request, I make my dinner first and eat it before making the second round. I need to finish by 7pm anyway. If it was the other way around, I’d likely not eat as healthily by making shortcuts.

9 Tips for weight loss success from someone who has lost 30 kgs / 66lbs in just 5 months!

Tip #6: Be Informed & Educated

Being informed is also a big part, which is why I love the Good Food Eating podcasts.

Sometimes I had to listen or read info often before it clicked, like the ‘getting a good night sleep’ advice, and I’ve heard about sugar issues over a few years but not really paid attention to it until this year. I actually love the infographics on the www that explain WHY certain foods are good for you.

Tip #8: Be Accountable and Practice Self Honesty

Accountability is a key factor, and being honest with yourself. The food tracking website will be a part of my life for a long time yet, as it’s still easy to underestimate intake without it, for me anyway.

Tip #9: Enjoy It

Well there is another factor there too, this isn’t meant to be a chore, or a pain.

I love all those tips, what about you?

One thing I most enjoy in reading things like this is you get to observe the amazing insight that people learn about themselves through a process of transformation.

Change is not easy because we are making changes from the inside out. But change is ALWAYS possible. No matter what we want, we can move ourselves closer to our goals if we just get started and stay focused.

Karen offers lots of great tips above that you can apply to get more success for yourself.

If you have your own tips, we’d love to hear about those too so please leave your comments below.
