If you’re reading this right now, you’ve probably heard of adrenal fatigue and maybe you suspect you suffer with it. It’s actually a common problem in modern society, more common than we know but it’s rarely identified and diagnosed by doctors. That means that many people could be walking around with this issue and not even knowing that’s why they feel so bad.
I’ve just released a new book ‘The Adrenal Fatigue Handbook; Meal Plans & Food Guide’ so I thought I’d share my take on how to cure adrenal fatigue so you can start taking a few positive steps toward change.
How To Cure Adrenal Fatigue
We don’t have time to cover everything in a single post but there are basically three key factors in overcoming the problem. In order of importance these are diet, lifestyle and exercise. With the right combination of changes these are your primary recovery strategies. The important thing to note is that even small changes can have a BIG impact and everything you do yields cummulative results.
So let’s look at these three primary areas now.
Diet
When it comes to adrenal fatigue we are really talking about a hormonal imbalance, largely driven by our stress hormone cortisol. But when one part of the endocrine system is disrupted it causes a cascade of events to occur in other hormones and this influences various other functions in the body.
What we eat directly effects our hormones. A classic example of this is when we eat sugar or carbohydrate, it ignites the release of insulin and this helps our blood sugar to maintain it’s balance. This is an area where there is a direct impact, but there’s also lots of subtle things that occur indirectly.
Since most of us generally eat a fairly poor diet, this places stress on our hormones. Some of the biggest adrenal hormone wreckers are sugar and sugar substitutes, refined carbohydrates, processed foods and junk, caffeine, gluten, and alcohol.
These things are directly under our control to influence and the cleaner our diet, the more balanced our body, and as a result the more balanced our hormones. It’s not rocket science, it’s common sense when you think about it.
So the place to start in overcoming adrenal fatigue with diet is by removing the biggest things contributing to the imbalance, which I just metioned above. Even if you can do that, you will be placing yourself miles ahead.
Lifestyle
Second in line of importance is lifestyle. When we find ourselves depleted, depressed, burnt out and exhausted, something has led us there in the first place, so what is that thing?
Sometimes it’s one thing like financial pressure, relationship troubles, workplace stress, or illness. Other times it’s a combination of things. In modern life we have many stressors coming at us from many different angles so we need to stop and take a good hard look at our lives and work out what needs to change.
Here’s a few questions to ponder and it’s often a good idea to write the answers down on a piece of paper
- Do you sleep well? – this is an area you want to work on first and foremost.
Do you make time for rest and relaxation?
Do you have stress management strategies that you use on a regular basis?
Do you put yourself as the number one priority and look after yourself well? - How do you currently feel about your job, your relationship, the direction your life is going?
Do you have fun and laughter in your life? - Do you think positive or mostly have a negative overtone?
Think about the various areas of your life and start to change things a bit. This is not always an easy process and often you have to completely turn your life upside down and inside out in order to find more balance. But when you find yourself in burn out and fatigue, there’s no choice but to start at the beginning and slowly weed your own garden to allow the flowers to grow
If you don’t you will keep spiralling out of control and that’s not a very good option.
Exercise
Exercise is a very important component in recovering from adrenal fatigue. It’s kind of a catch 22 because sometimes you don’t feel like doing anything, especially if you’re depleted. But even so, exercise can help to rebuild energy.
Now I’m not talking going 100 miles an hour here, not by any means. If 10 minutes a day is all you can start with, then start there. But the goal is to try to incorporate some daily exercise and activity into your routine. Choose from gentler forms of exercise such as stretching, yoga, walking, qi gong, swimming, or gentle body weight training.
These 3 primary factors make a VERY powerful combo in getting your energy back on track. The important thing is putting it together in a workable plan. That’s where my new book can help, because it takes the stress out of working out what to do and it lays everything out very simply.
- *Everything about adrenal fatigue and how it effects your health
*What to eat and when
*What supplements to take and when - *And all the stuff that is difficult to find information about.
I put it all in my book to make it easier for you.
Go take a look at what’s inside.
It helped me recover, it’s helped some of my clients recover, and I hope it helps you recover too.
