new-sesaon-challenge-update

Last week I invited you to join me and challenge yourself.

The idea is that we do a series of mini challenges over the next quarter. That’s how big changes are made, in small steps.

And NOW is the perfect time to get back on track so we’re charging into the New Year. We want to feel energized, healthier, and happier.

The first step in this process is to work out what your health goals are. We talked about that over here.

Every week I’ll post an ‘update’ post just like this one. So feel free to share what you’re working on right now and we can do this together.

So what are you working on? Or what do you want to work on? What one thing can you change in this coming week?

My Update

Last week I shared that I’m making some changes myself and my first 3 goals were:

  • Move more
  • Quit coffee
  • Drink more water

As we all know, it’s easy to find yourself off track and wanting to make some changes, so the only way to make them is to DO something different.

So this week my major focus has been more movement. I’ve been swimming, walking, and doing tons of stretching every day.

I also rearranged my home gym, moving my treatment bed out of the way, because it only gets used for the odd physical therapy session these days, and my treatment bed is on wheels, so it got pushed aside. And I dusted off the equipment so I can actually start using my home gym.

Before gym-room-1 After gym-room-2 stand-up-desk

I’ve also rigged up a make shift stand up desk (see it over there to the right), so I’m now standing more as I work, instead of sitting.

I had a cupboard of drawers, so I turned one of the drawers upside down and it just happens to be the right height for a stand up desk.

So now I spend some of my time standing and some sitting at my other work station. It’s amazing how much this creates more energy and I’ve actually been a lot more productive.

work-desk I do love my work desk as well. I’ve got a dual screen setup and an awesome view from my window.

I have been drinking more water. I haven’t quit coffee, but I have cut back to just one black coffee per day. So that’s a big improvement.

My coffee intake had got a bit out of control, sometimes having 4 cups a day, which is really too much. So it’s back to green tea, dandelion root, and rooibus tea.

I’ve also been making it a point to be more present. Stop thinking about a million things with a racing mind and be where I am. Listen to the people around me when I’m with them.

Have you ever found you’re not really listening to your partner because you’re thinking about something else?

It’s not a good habit, so I’ve been consciously slowing down to be more present. It’s good for me but also good for others too.

And of course, I’m finding more time for Good Food Eating and helping you achieve your goals. With everything else that’s been going on in life this year, I’d lost some of my passion and drive to write, share, educate, and create.

So I’m glad that I’m finding the heart and fun in it again, and I hope you are too.

This week ahead

Keep doing more of the same, just to reinforce my actions.

Next week, we’re going to do a clean eating challenge. Are you in?

I’ll post more about that as we get closer. Including some delicious recipes you can try.

Your turn

So what’s going on in your world?

What changes are you making or are going to make?

I look forward to hearing about them.

I’m trying to get off prednisone!!! I had a Crisis due to over medicating dr’s who don’t know what contradictions and the health insurance making me get some of my arthritis meds via their pharmacy. I had almost every allergy and side effect to steroids I read about, one week ago tomorrow. I am today “safely” down to 2 mg a day? I am following eat for your blood type Type O nonsecreter. And I would like to be off all steroids safely by my next tentative surgeries on 10/14/2015. Any specific tips or advice would be appreciated.

Hey Karen, what a journey – sounds like you’ve been going through a lot but congratulations on wading your way through the mess. Are you taking any supportive supplements?

You might find magnesium helpful to reduce aches http://goodfoodeating.org/844/best-magnesium-supplement/, and something like ashwaganda could help with the energy and hormone support http://goodfoodeating.org/9617/ashwaganda-adaptogenic-herb/.

Hi Jedha, I did increase my water, am taking my vitamins more regularly and working in the garden. A little set back this week. My gall bladder is inflamed and all my joints are aching. I’ve started drinking dandelion tea, cutting back on dairy. I’m already gluten free. A trip to the store tomorrow and I will be juicing. Beets with the tops, carrots, cucumber, lemon and ginger. Hopefully this will calm things back down.

      Great work Rosemary!

Don’t you just love those set backs, that’s how life works I guess but you’re doing all the right things. Dandelion is fabulous stuff and definitely avoid the dairy and any excess sugar. With gallbladder stuff it’s often liver and digestive function that’s an issue too. Having any other problems there?

What about stimulating acupressure points? Apparently it helps to stimulate better gallbladder function. Here’s some more info http://www.drdavidwilliams.com/bad-gallbladder-natural-treatments/

I look forward to hearing an update about your juicing adventure.
