5 Great Reasons To Keep A Weekly Food Diary

A food diary is such a powerful tool. If ever you find yourself falling off the wagon, needing a bit more organisation, or looking for a way to break the weight loss plateau, pull out the food diary and track your weekly routine.

Here’s 5 Great Ways It Helps:

1. Keeps you accountable
When you take the time to write down what you’re eating every day it really does help to keep you accountable. If you start straying off the golden path you’ll be aware of it and you can start to see patterns in your habits and this can help you make some simple changes. Awareness is always the first step toward change.

2. Helps you to plan
You don’t have to log as you go. Why not make a plan ahead of time instead! Meal planning helps to keep you moving in the right direction. I find having a plan saves me time, stress, and money. Doing a big batch cook on the weekend frees up time in the week too :)

3. Improves results
When you track your food and beverage intake you get a better picture of what’s really going in. Sometimes we think we are eating really well but there may be a little too many indulgences. Or we may be able to identify a problem food, something we can cut back on, or a way we could utlise a bit of moderate portion control. All these things will help improve weight loss results.

4. Keeps you honest
Let’s face it, we all have a strong streak of denial. Not wanting to admit that we are usually a big part of the problem. We like to stay in our little comfort zone. That’s why keeping a weekly food diary helps to keep you honest. Sure you could lie and not write down all of what you’re eating, but you’d know it! Your food diary is only for your own eyes and can help break the pattern of negative self talk that may move you toward bad choices.

5. Shows your progress
When we start moving toward better health, we often forget just how far we’ve come. We forget to pat ourselves on the back and say ‘well done you!’ Imagine keeping a food diary from the beginning, you may see junk food on there yet over time you change to veggies instead. You can look back and see just how much you’ve improved and that’s a great motivation to keep on going.

Do you keep a weekly food diary?

Your health is your wealth,
