I was referring to ‘added’ sugars in the diet, so the World Health Organization recommends 25 grams per day limit, which is about 6 teaspoons. I personally still think that’s quite a lot of ‘added’ sugar every day. It does not include the natural carbohydrates in fruits and veggies.

Yes I think stevia is safe and use it myself. I did a short podcast about it recently http://goodfoodeating.org/6650/is-stevia-safe/

Thanks for listening, so glad you get value out of them. Be sure to stop by and check in again soon. All the best :)

My question is if the sugar intake you’re discussing includes the sugars in fruit and veggies. Also, do you consider stevia to be a safe, healthy alternative natural sweetener to sugar? I have a sweet tooth :( what can I say. I’ve tried to switch over to raw honey and pure maple syrup for most things but sometimes I need more sweetness.

Thank you for doing these podcasts and sharing the scientific research. I really appreciate that you care enough to put the effort in to help people. I did a small presentation on oxidative stress in a neuroendocrinology course about a year ago and this podcast really reminded me of a lot of the information I learned in the process. (Especially when you reference metabolic syndrome)
