I love stories like this one because it just demonstrates that you can control, prevent, and even reverse type 2 diabetes, but it certainly won’t happen by following the commonly provided diet prescription. I’m so glad you are healthier. Thanks for sharing :)

I’ve been a Type 2 Diabetic for 12 years, now. Back then, I was told all the same hype. It left me wondering why I couldn’t lose weight? Why my A1C levels weren’t below a 7? Until, I did my own research. I decreased the carb intake (and I love pasta and bread!), increased the protein (to Greek yogurt and chicken), try to eat fish a couple times per week, use tuna and eggs in salads (my salads being spinach or darker leafy greens), I think you get the picture! :) In return, I lost 106lbs, have been able to keep my A1C levels between 4.5 and 5.4, plus, go off of the Rx they had me on for Diabetes (Glucophage XR.) My weight has been steady and my Diabetes has been diet controlled since 2005.

Let’s just hope that some newbies get to this and start questioning what they’ve been told. But also, in today’s society, too many want things “my way” and will gladly accept pills and continue to eat sugar on a daily basis. Keep up the good work, thks.

Balance is definitely the key and choosing the right kind of carbs. You’re right that it should be common sense but many people don’t have the awareness you do and so go on blindly.

Thanks for stopping by :)

I can’t tell you how many people I know with type 2 diabetes say that their doctor told them to increase their carb intake. I can say without a doubt that at least for me, we I eat meals with the carbs a normal doctor would say to be ok for a diabetic, my blood glucose is always high. There is also a link to the proportion of carb to protein in meals and snacks. There should be a balance.

Much of this is common sense and paying attention to what you eat and what it does to your blood glucose measurements rather than blindly following a diet recommendation.
